I have read maybe 25-30 biographical novels about the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.You can tell that many of them have been sanitised by the editorial process.Made more accessible, more convenient for a reader to fit into worn tropes about the courage of men in combat against evil or similar.Mark Wales novel is different.Searingly honest about his vulnerabilities as a soldier and army officer, this book is a testament to the real human effects of combat - even on the soldiers of one of the worlds most elite special forces units.That Mark survived his combat tours, Wharton Business school and then the cut and thrust of the US start up business scene is indicative of a search of answers and peace which elude many veterans post their service. A great story of resistance and hope. A must read
