Some recordings just sound better than others. Having grown up in the generation where having component audio systems was considered important, I would notice that some recordings just sounded better than the others. When I was in college, I worked at Pacific Stereo and would use the opening riffs of "Whatcha Gonna Do" by Pablo Cruise to demo overall great rock n' roll sound on speaker systems. Then I'd put on "Hey Nineteen" by Steely Dan to demo how tight a kick drum sounds on speakers. Little did I know that Bill Schnee was involved in that sound.This book connected the dots and gave me a lot of "A-ha" moments. The biggest A-ha is that I should have become an audio engineer.
